Just Misses Playoffs
After losing its first six games, the Bonackers went 9-3 the rest of the season to win a share of the League V title with Westhampton Beach with identical 7-1 records, but they will not make the postseason. Ever since Section XI went to a double-elimination format playoffs a few years ago, teams are now required to finish at least one game over .500 in their mandatory nonleague schedule in order to qualify, East Hampton Athletic Director Kathy Masterson confirmed Tuesday morning. The Bonackers finished with a 9-9 record, missing the playoffs by one game. Gabrielle Payne went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs and Katie Kuneth struck out seven in a complete game in the Bonackers’ 9-6 regular-season finale victory at Rocky Point on May 1.

Wins Fourth Straight
The East Hampton boys tennis team defeated Shoreham-Wading River, 5-2, at home on Friday for its fourth consecutive victory of the season. The Bonackers are 6-4 in League IV play, 7-6 in mandatory nonleague matches and 7-7 overall.

Ends Losing Streak
A 12-6 victory at Hauppauge on April 30 snapped a four-game losing streak for the Bonackers (6-8 in Division II, 8-8 overall, 76.66 power points). Melina Sarlo scored four goals and Ava Tintle and Lola Eldridge each scored a pair of goals. East Hampton/Pierson followed that up with a 15-13 victory at Hampton Bays on May 2. Sarlo scored four goals and had three assists and Tintle scored four goals. Fiona Haddock scored six goals for Hampton Bays.

Wins at ESM
The Mariners defeated the Sharks, 4-3, on Friday which ended a five-game losing streak. Southampton is 2-8 in League IV play and 3-10 overall.

Clinches Upset Victory
The Hampton Bays softball team defeated Mount Sinai, 6-5, at home on Monday. With the game tied, 5-5, in the bottom of the eighth, Shea Egan sent a fly ball to left field that Lee Brumagim was able to tag up from third base and score the walk-off run, handing the playoff-bound Mustangs just their second loss in League VII play this season. The Baymen (3-4 in League VII, 7-10 MNL, 7-11 overall) had trailed, 5-1, heading into the bottom of the seventh but rallied for four runs to force extra innings. Gimena Valdespino drove in Julia Brandes with a line drive to center field that tied the game.

In Baymen Baseball Win
Max Reilly struck out 10 and only allowed two hits in a complete game where he outpitched Southold’s stop starting pitcher Luke Newman, leading the Baymen (1-15 in League VI, 3-15 overall) to a 2-1 nonleague victory at home on April 30. Patrick Donahue went 1-for-2 with a run, a walk, and three stolen bases and Seamus Smith went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Nick Rizzo nearly went the distance for the Westhampton Beach baseball team (2-12 in League V, 4-12 overall), pitching 6 ⅔ innings where he struck out five in the 6-3 victory at home over Half Hollow Hills West on April 30. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate where he scored two runs and drove a run in. Riley Miller had two RBIs and Patrick Fay came in for the late out to earn the save.

In Line for Playoff Spot
The Westhampton Beach boys lacrosse team defeated host Babylon, 5-1, on May 1 for its fourth win in its past five games. Finn Drake scored two goals and Charlie Beasley made six saves in the win. The Hurricanes (8-4 in Division II, 9-5 overall, 122.62 power points) had also defeated Mount Sinai, 10-8, at home on April 29. Nolan Michalowski scored two goals and won 15 of his 22 faceoffs. Dante Mansfield scored three goals and Drake had three assists.
