East Hampton Softball

Just Misses Playoffs

After losing its first six games, the Bonackers went 9-3 the rest of the season to win a share of the League V title with Westhampton Beach with identical 7-1 records, but they will not make the postseason. Ever since Section XI went to a double-elimination format playoffs a few years ago, teams are now required to finish at least one game over .500 in their mandatory nonleague schedule in order to qualify, East Hampton Athletic Director Kathy Masterson confirmed Tuesday morning. The Bonackers finished with a 9-9 record, missing the playoffs by one game. Gabrielle Payne went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs and Katie Kuneth struck out seven in a complete game in the Bonackers’ 9-6 regular-season finale victory at Rocky Point on May 1.
