East Hampton Girls Soccer Goes Undefeated in League
Shayla Buestan and Amy Torres each scored and the Bonackers held on to a 2-1 victory at Hampton Bays on Saturday to close out the season 11-0 in developmental League IV games. A 2-0 nonleague loss at Center Moriches on October 11 was the only blemish on the season for the girls who finished 13-1 overall.
Strong Second Half Propels Bonac Boys Soccer
Eduardo Calle and Santiago Arango each scored a goal in the second half to lead the East Hampton boys soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Eastport-South Manor on Thursday, October 16. After losing its regular-season finale, 3-0, at home to Northport on Saturday the Bonackers finished the season 2-11-2 in League II.
Bonac Swimmers Fall to Defending League Champs
The East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton girls swim team lost, 94-86, at Connetquot on October 14. Captain Lizzy Daniels went a best time in the 100-yard freestyle taking second place with a county meet qualifying time (57.23 seconds), and also won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.05). East Hampton freshman Sydney Powers swam best times in both the 50 free, in the leadoff in the 200 free relay (26.61 seconds), and the 100 free (59.67 seconds), earning county qualifying times in both events. Pierson eighth-grader Heidi Rizzo won the 500 free with a best time (5:37.56), while her sister, Vanessa, won the 100 back (1:03.73). Powers and Bridgehampton sophomore Sabina Piecyk were both named Swimmers of the Meet by their team captains.
Whalers Volleyball Sweeps Shelter Island
The Pierson/Bridgehampton girls volleyball team defeated host Shelter Island, 3-0, on October 15 in set scores of 25-15, 25-6, 25-7. Ava Lynch served eight aces, Layla Garypie finished with seven aces and seven assists and C.J. Echavarria had five digs. The Whalers are 3-4 in League VIII, 3-10 overall.
Pariz Leads Southampton Girls Volleyball
Bea Pariz had 21 kills and 19 digs to help lead the Mariners (5-3 in League VII, 9-4 overall) to a 3-1 victory — 19-25, 25-22, 25-17, 26-24 — at home over Babylon on Friday. Zoey Sulph had 10 kills, Danna Nieto had team-high 28 digs, Haven Daley had 21 digs and 20 assists and Lucia Obregon had 19 assists.
Hampton Bays Boys Volleyball Shuts Out West Babylon
The host Baymen defeated West Babylon, 3-0, on October 14 to improve to 4-8 in Division II play. Set scores were 25-12, 25-20, 25-10. Charlie Patek had team-highs in both digs (25) and kills (21). Peyton Single had 20 digs, Angel Munoz recorded 16 digs and Christian Rodriguez and Leo Spellman each had 16 assists.
Frederiksen, Meyers Lead Hampton Bays Girls Volleyball
Taylor Meyers had a team-high 16 kills to go with 21 digs while Madysen Frederiksen had a team-high 27 digs to go 12 kills in the Baymen’s 3-0 victory over Mount Sinai at home on Thursday, October 16. Set scores were 25-16, 25-21, 25-11. Gracie Carvis and Grace Drake each recorded 17 assists and Lilly Maffia had 18 digs. Hampton Bays is 11-3 in League VI, 13-4 overall.
Burke Helps Hurricanes Defeat Harborfields
Katie Burke had a team-high 22 kills to go with 12 digs in leading her host Westhampton Beach girls volleyball team (8-3 in League V, 9-4 overall) to a 3-1 victory — 25-23, 15-25, 26-24, 25-17 — over Harborfields on Friday. Mia Hill had 11 kills, Evie Burke had 18 assists and 12 digs, Emma O’Came had 24 assists, Lila Davin had 17 digs and Chloe Webb had 12 digs.
Westhampton Beach Football Loses at Sayville
The Hurricanes have lost back-to-back games after their 42-14 loss at Sayville on Friday. The Golden Flashes led by just seven points after the first quarter of play but they exploded for 21 points in the second quarter. The rest of the game was played evenly. Connor Ragimierski scored both touchdowns for Westhampton Beach (2-4 in Division III) on runs of 78 and 40 yards.
