Bonac Boys Swimmers Finish Third in League II
In a match that decided third place in the final regular standings of League II, the East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton boys swim team prevailed, defeating visiting Sayville/Bayport-Blue Point, 85-76, on January 21. The Bonackers finished 4-2 in league matches, 4-4 overall, while “Say/Bay-Blue” finished 3-3 in League II, 3-5 overall. East Hampton senior Cristian Sigua won the 100-meter backstroke and took second in the 200-meter individual medley, while Pierson senior Jack Ziemer placed third in the 500-yard freestyle. Pierson junior Luca Borghi was chosen as Swimmer of the Meet for his efforts in the 500 free. It was his first time competing in the event and placed fourth scoring valuable points for the team. He also swam a personal best in the 50-meter freestyle.
East Hampton Boys Hoops Halt Lengthy Losing Skid
The Bonackers defeated Harborfields, 67-34, at home on Monday snapping what was a seven-game losing streak dating back to the last time they had defeated the Tornadoes on January 6. East Hampton is 4-9 in League V, 6-11 overall.
Killer Bees Continue Winning Ways
The Bridgehampton boys basketball team defeated host Shelter Island, 68-52, on January 22, then defeated host Smithtown Christian, 59-35, on Saturday, to improve to 13-0 in League VII, 14-1 overall. Additional information was not available.
Palmore Leads Mariners to Victory
Daelyn Palmore scored 33 points willing the Southampton girls basketball team to a 43-31 victory at home over Center Moriches on Saturday. The senior scored 11 points in the first quarter, three in the second, 11 in the third and eight in the fourth. Maggie Glanz scored six points for the Mariners (3-9 in League VII, 3-12 overall) and Avery Greene chipped in with four points.
Hampton Bays Wrestling Defeats Centereach
The Baymen picked up a 53-8 nonleague victory at home on Thursday, January 23. The middle weights came through for Hampton Bays, starting with Omar Gonzalez at 131 pounds, who defeated Michael Amaya Lopez, 6-2. That started a string of five consecutive victories for the Baymen, which included pins by Nilson Quesada (138) and Brayden Havens (160) and wins via technical fall by Cyrus Gutierrez-Tyler (145) and Angel Valverde (152). Kevin Saa Pacheco (124) won his match by major decision, 18-4, over Jake Jenkins and Jean Carlos Herrera (190) and Michael Gutierrez (215) each pinned their opponents.
Blenk Helps Rocky Point Win Journeymen Duals
Westhampton Beach sophomore Lily Blenk, who wrestles dual meets throughout the wrestling season with a combined team based out of Rocky Point, helped the Eagles win the inaugural Journeymen Girls State Duals on Saturday. Rocky Point defeated Phoenix, Minisink Valley and Shenendehowa. Blenk won her final match, 10-0, with four takedowns, including a four-point double-leg takedown, over Olivia Fox.
Westhampton Beach Wrestling Defeats Bayport-Blue Point
Thanks to three pins and a pair of technical falls, the Hurricanes defeated the visiting Phantoms, 53-18, in a nonleague match on Friday. Dylan Razzano (152 pounds), Joe Carasiti (170) and Pablo Velez Jr. (285) each won by pin, while Darren (116) and Nate Cangelosi (124) each won by tech falls. Max Orr (138) won his match by major decision.
