Bonac Football Avenges Last Year’s Playoff Loss
The East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton football team defeated host Half Hollow Hills West, 35-10, on Saturday afternoon, on the same field the Bonackers suffered a 52-6 loss in the opening round of the Suffolk County Division III playoffs last season. Theo Ball threw for 190 yards and three touchdowns, one of them to Jackson Ronick who also rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Charlie Stern caught three receptions for 115 yards and recorded six tackles on defense. Livs Kuplins had six tackles and an interception and caught a 25-yard reception for a touchdown for the Bonackers, who improved to 1-1 on the season after a season-opening loss at Eastport-South Manor a week prior. The only touchdown given up by East Hampton was a blocked punt by Jayden Smith who returned it 15 yards for a touchdown. Hazem Nassar kicked a 31-yard field goal for the Colts.
East Hampton Boys Cross Country Continues Strong Start
The East Hampton boys cross country team defeated Rocky Point, 22-33, on the 2.5-mile course at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park on September 16. Trevor Green, an All-State runner and swimmer for Rocky Point, won the race, but Liam Knight (14:30), Sean Perez (14:35), Jasper Samuelson (14:47) and Watts Comly-Bolick (15:13) all followed for Bonac to win the race. The East Hampton girls lost their race, 22-38, but Laura Martinez won the race.
Bonac Boys Volleyball Tops Whitman, Hauppauge
After defeating host Walt Whitman, 3-2, in set scores of 25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 18-25, 15-13, on September 11, the East Hampton boys volleyball team had a much easier affair at home on September 16 in a 3-0 sweep of Hauppauge, 25-11, 25-22, 25-22. The boys are 3-2 overall on the season.
First Win for East Hampton Girls Volleyball
The East Hampton girls volleyball team defeated Amityville, 3-1, at home on Saturday for their first win of the season. They are 1-5 overall.
Swimmers Win League Opener
The East Hampton/Pierson/Bridgehampton girls swim team defeated Lindenhurst/West Islip, 87-57, at the East Hampton YMCA RECenter on September 17 to win their first League II meet of the season. The Bonackers jumped out to a 12-2 lead after taking first and second in the first event of the night. Overall, the girls won eight of the 10 events. East Hampton freshman Rae Intonato was selected as the Swimmer of the Meet by team captains for filling in when a teammate couldn’t compete.
Garapie Leads Pierson/Bridgehampton Girls Volleyball
Layla Garapie had eight aces and 11 assists in a 3-1 victory for the Pierson/Bridgehampton girls volleyball team at the Ross School on September 15. The Whalers (2-2 in League VIII, 2-4 overall) lost the first set, 25-20, but rattled off three consecutive victories, 25-20, 25-18, 25-17, to take the match. Ava Lynch added six kills and three aces and Destiny Park had five kills and five aces.
Cook Leads the Way For Southampton Boys Cross Country
Matthew Cook finished the 5K in 20:04 to lead the Southampton boys cross country team (1-2 in League VIII) to a 18-28 victory over Center Moriches at Indian Island County Park in Riverhead on Monday. The girls also defeated Center Moriches, 32-33, on Monday and improved to 2-1 after a 28-30 victory over Babylon at Red Creek Park in Hampton Bays on September 16. Eighth-grader Zoe Ruiz won the race after finishing the 5K course in 24:55.
Stevens Scores Twice To Lead Mariner Girls Soccer
Addison Stevens scored a pair of goals to lead the Southampton girls soccer team (1-5 in Division II, 3-5 overall) to a 2-1 nonleague victory at Riverhead on Monday, snapping what had been a five-game losing streak. Samanta Rea and Isabella Glorioso each had an assist and Natalie Glanz made six saves.
Southampton Girls Volleyball Winners of Three Straight
After its first loss of the season to Bayport-Blue Point on September 10, the Southampton girls volleyball team won three straight, all by 3-1 scores, at Mattituck on September 12, at Babylon on September 15 and then most recently at home over Pierson/Bridgehampton on September 17. In that match that went, 25-11, 21-25, 25-16, 25-16, Bailey Brown once again led the offense with 20 kills and also had 11 digs and four aces. Lucia Obregon added 17 assists and 10 digs.
Guevara’s Goal Stands Up For Baymen Boys Soccer
Brandon Guevara’s first half goal, which was assisted by Giorgio Sinchi, was the difference for Hampton Bays boys soccer team (3-2 in Division III) in its 1-0 victory at Wyandanch on September 16. Nick Osorio made six saves in goal for the shutout. It was the third win a row for the Baymen but that streak was halted on Saturday in a 1-0 loss at home to Miller Place.
Pair of Wins For Hampton Bays Girls Soccer
The Hampton Bays girls soccer team (2-2 in Division IV, 3-3 overall) defeated Copiague, 3-0, at home on September 17, then easily defeated host Wyandanch, 8-1, on Friday. Nicole Bedoya scored two goals in the win over Copiague with Alejandra Montoya scoring the other. Bedoya scored twice in the win over Wyandanch, as did Brianna Farrell.
Hampton Bays Football Falls to 0-2
The Hampton Bays Baymen football team lost, 39-7, at Kings Park on Friday night. Brayden Talmage caught the lone touchdown from quarterback Connor Bullinger for Hampton Bays.
Hurricane Boys Volleyball Has Win Streak Snapped
After winning its first five matches to start the season, its latest a 3-2 victory at Commack on September 16, the Westhampton Beach boys volleyball team lost, 3-1, at Sachem North on Thursday, September 18, in 19-25, 25-18, 18-25, 19-25 scores.
Westhampton Beach Football Loses at West Islip
The Westhampton Beach Hurricanes football team (0-2 in Division III) suffered a 28-17 loss at West Islip on Friday night. Patrick Fay threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Nate LoGelfo in the second quarter and Connor Ragimierski scored on a 13-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
