The Southampton Town Police Department will launch its 2026 Civilian Police Academy on January 15, offering residents a 16-week educational program designed to strengthen communication and trust between the department and the community.
The free program, held one evening a week at police headquarters, provides an inside look at police operations with classroom instruction on topics such as laws of arrest, search and seizure, use of force, DWI enforcement, narcotics, domestic violence, investigations and gangs. Participants may also take part in an optional ride-along and observe demonstrations at the department’s firearms range and Emergency Vehicle Operations Course. There is no physical component to the academy.
Enrollment is limited, with priority given to Southampton Town residents, though nonresidents may be accepted if space allows. Contact Lt. William Kiernan at wkiernan@southamptontownny.gov or 631-702-2232 to receive an application.
