SOUTHAMPTON VILLAGE — Matthew Kopoulos, 34, of East Hampton was arrested by Village Police on December 2 and charged with petit larceny and unlawfully fleeing an officer, both misdemeanors, stemming from a September 25 incident in which police say Kopoulos stole items from the 7-Eleven on North Sea Road and then fled the scene on an e-bike. When a Village Police officer attempted to stop him he sped away and drove onto the Shinnecock Territory. A village officer recognized Kopoulos walking on the side of Tuckahoe Road this week and placed him under arrest. He was arraigned in Village Justice Court and turned over to East Hampton Town Police on an arrest warrant.

QUOGUE — On November 25 at 9:56 a.m. Quogue Village Police arrested Jalen C. Shelby, 32, of Greenport on charges of second-degree criminal contempt, based on an incident that happened two days earlier in Quogue. He was arraigned in Quogue Village Justice Court on November 25.

He was pulled over on Old Country Road in Quogue at 11:11 p.m. after being observed making an unsafe lane change, crossing double yellow lines and driving on the shoulder. His vehicle was subject to seizure under Suffolk County Code. He was arraigned in Quogue Village Justice Court on December 1.

HAMPTON BAYS — Avy Rivera-Piedra, 21, of Hampton Bays was arrested by Southampton Town Police on November 21 and charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer, a misdemeanor, after an extensive search for the driver of an SUV that had fled at a high speed from a police officer who had tried to pull it over on Sunrise Highway near exit 63. The vehicle was found abandoned on Argonne Road East a short time later and a search was mounted for the driver. A Southampton Village Police K-9 was called in and New York State Troopers drone unit was deployed. The driver was located near the Chase Bank in downtown Hampton Bays and placed under arrest.

Witnesses said the woman had taken the candle from a closet in the church without permission and then gotten a white Mazda and drove toward Westhampton. An officer spotted the car and pulled it over and discovered the driver to be intoxicated, police said. The charge was a felony because Garcia-Lopez had previously been convicted of DWI within the last 10 years.

When the officer approached the car he found the driver to smell of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet, according to police, who said that when asked his name, Aguilar told the officer a fake name. Further investigation revealed his actual identity and that he had two previous DWI convictions and an outstanding arrest warrant.
