Police said that after the accident occurred, Santos-Alvarez fled the scene. A witness followed him to a house on Nassau Street and called police. Police said the victim, who was highly intoxicated, suffered some minor cuts and scrapes on his face and right hand. He was taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital for treatment and was asked to report to the Southampton Town Police headquarters to make a statement about the assault when he was sober.

HAMPTON BAYS — Southampton Town Police arrested the owner of a Wading River construction company on December 4 and charged him with grand larceny in the third degree, a felony, related to a residential construction contract that police said was never followed through on. Police say that they received a complaint from a property owner claiming that they had hired Singco Construction Company to build a residence in Southampton in July 2024 and provided a $15,000 check to Jeffrey Singer, 39, of Wading River. But, to date, none of the construction has begun, and no architectural plans have been produced. The victim said that they had tried repeatedly to contact Singco Construction, unsuccessfully.

HAMPTON BAYS — Erik Ulate-Cardenas, 22, of Hampton Bays was arrested by Southampton Town Police at about 2:10 a.m. on December 5 and charged with misdemeanor DWI after he was pulled over on Springville Road and an officer determined that he was intoxicated. RIVERSIDE — A masked man stole a vehicle from a gas station on Peconic Avenue on December 5 after chatting briefly with the car’s owner. The victim told police that he was inside the gas station’s store and left his car running in front of the entrance. A man, whom police described as “a slim white male” wearing all black and a black ski mask, walked around his car and entered the store. The man asked the victim where he worked, then exited the store and got into the man’s car and drove up Flanders Road.

SHINNECOCK HILLS — Juan Palacio-Cortez, 22, of Hampton Bays was arrested at about 10:30 p.m. on December 5 and charged with misdemeanor DWI after a police officer found him asleep behind the wheel of his running car at the intersection of County Road 39 and North Road. The officer tried to wake the driver up by pounding on the window. When he did awake, Palacio-Cortez was disoriented, rolled down a passenger side window and put the car in gear to drive away, police said. An officer reached inside the passenger window and put the car back into park and unlocked the doors.

QUOGUE — Jalen Shelby, 32, of Greenport turned himself in at Quogue Village Police headquarters on November 25 at 9:56 p.m. after police said he violated an order of protection that stemmed from an investigation into a domestic incident earlier this month. BRIDGEHAMPTON — A candy store employee reported to Southampton Town Police on December 6 that a woman had stolen 8-ounce bags of “Swedish gummy drops,” valued at $15.99 each. The employee told police that the woman had come into the store and taken the bags of candy off the shelf and placed them in a shoulder bag. She then came to the store’s counter and told the employee that she had previously purchased two “dark chocolate peppermint trees” and had accidentally left the items behind. The employee notified the store’s owner, who told the employee to give the woman two of the tree-shaped chocolates. The woman then left the store without paying for the items she had put in her bag. Store employees later determined from sales records that her tale about having left the chocolate trees behind was false. The store employees were able to identify the woman to police as a Northwest Harbor resident, but she has yet to be charged.
