SCHOLAR-ATHLETES
Hampton Bays had four teams qualify as a New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Team this past winter. In order to qualify as a team, 75 percent of its average GPA for the season must be equal to or greater than 90 percent. Those teams included girls basketball (93.1 average), competitive cheerleading (93.6 average) and boys/girls indoor track and field (90 boys, 91.9 girls average). Student-athletes can also earn Scholar-Athlete individual honors by earning an individual average of 90 or above, whether their team qualified or not. Although specific names were not released, 104 student-athletes earned the distinction.
