An Amagansett woman suffered serious injuries when she was struck by a car as she crossed Montauk Highway in the hamlet on Friday afternoon. The car fled the scene, but was found a short time later, leading to charges against the driver.
East Hampton Town Police said that Alexandra Liveris, 39, was crossing the highway in a crosswalk at about 2:20 p.m. when she was struck by an SUV in the eastbound lane.
The vehicle that struck Leveris left the scene of the crash, police said, but was located a short time later nearby. The driver, Brianna Becci, 18, of West Babylon has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury, a felony, and acting in a manner injurious to a child, because there was another person under the age of 17 in the vehicle with her, police said.
Liveris was taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital by Amagansett Fire Department ambulance personnel, where she was listed in stable condition.
Becci was processed at East Hampton Town Police headquarters and released with an order to return for arraignment in East Hampton Town Justice Court at a date that has yet to be determined.
Police said the accident is still under investigation and welcome anyone with further information to contact detectives at 631-537-7575.
