It Takes a Village

We owe an enormous thanks to the many, many generous people in the villages of Sag Harbor, North Haven and beyond who have contributed to the food drives for the Sag Harbor Community Food Pantry over the past several weeks, starting with the drive organized by Temple Adas Israel, followed by the drive graciously coordinated by Jessica Soeffer and Deputy Mayor Claas Abraham and the Village of North Haven, continuing with the incredible drive organized by Shawn Sachs and his team at Kidd Squid, then the food drive at King Kullen on a rainy day enthusiastically manned by Sag Harbor Boy Scout Troop 455. Our friends at Wamponamon Lodge 437 deliver to us every year, as does the Sag Harbor Elementary School with a huge drive.

We are incredibly grateful to the organizers of these food drives, but our sincere and deep thanks goes to every person who contributed food items or financial donations. They say it “takes a village,” and nothing could be more true for our neighbors helping neighbors in our caring villages of Sag Harbor and North Haven.

Our Sag Harbor Food Pantry is now serving upward of 125 families every week, or 500 children, adults and seniors, all of whom live in the Sag Harbor School District. We offer nutritious, fresh and nonperishable food. Our pantry is 100 percent volunteer run. To learn more, please visit our website at sagharborfoodpantry.org.

The Sag Harbor Lions Club also is currently collecting new, unwrapped toys at the windmill and at North Haven Village Hall everyday until December 15 to help make the holidays brighter for the youngest members of our food pantry families.

Please also join us for the Polar Bear Plunge on January 1 at Wainscott Beach at 2 p.m. to start the New Year with a splash! All proceeds and donations benefit the Sag Harbor Food Pantry. Visit our website to register.
