The word on the street is that the Corner Bar, a long-time Sag Harbor institution, has been sold.
Although there have been rumors of an impending sale for months, representatives of the owner, the Smyth family, have declined to comment on the deal.
The bar, at the corner of Main and Bay streets, has been a popular Sag Harbor hangout for decades. When the longtime owner, Jim Smyth, died in 2017, the bar was transferred to a family trust and has operated under that arrangement ever since.
The names of a number of prospective buyers have been circulating in recent months, but have yet to be confirmed.
Two sources, who requested anonymity, said employees were notified that they would be laid off when new owners take over on January 2.
