The Suffolk County Legislature on Tuesday honored Richard “Dick” Fox White Jr. for 55 years of service as a trustee of the Suffolk County Parks Department Board, recognizing his decades-long commitment to public service and community leadership.
White, a lifelong Montauk resident, was first appointed in 1970 as East Hampton’s representative on the Parks Board. Over more than five decades, he has played a key role in shaping policy and stewardship of the county’s parklands, contributing extensive institutional knowledge and steady guidance to preserve open space and expand public access.
In addition to his work with the Parks Department, White has held numerous civic roles, including serving as an East Hampton Town councilman, treasurer of the Montauk Fire Department, and chairman of the Montauk Point Lighthouse Museum Committee.
“Dick White exemplifies the very best of public service,” Legislator Ann Welker said in presenting the commendation. “His consistent, humble, and lifelong commitment to his community and our parks is an inspiration.”
The Legislature recognized White with a formal commendation celebrating his 55 years of volunteerism, leadership, and dedication to Suffolk County’s natural and historic resources.
