The nine All-League wrestlers are the most for the program since 1998 when 10 Bonackers earned the distinction. Back then, only the top three wrestlers advanced to counties, so only seven of those 10 wrestlers qualified for counties. It’s been even longer, since 1990 when the team had 14 All-League wrestlers, since East Hampton has sent nine qualifiers to counties. Ed.
SCHOLAR-ATHLETES
East Hampton had seven teams qualify as a New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Team this past winter. In order to qualify as a team, 75 percent of its average GPA for the season must be equal to or greater than 90 percent. Those teams included boys/girls basketball, boys bowling, boys/girls indoor track and field, boys swimming and wrestling. Student-athletes can also earn Scholar-Athlete individual honors by earning an individual average of 90 or above, whether their team qualified or not. Although specific names were not released, 81 student-athletes earned the distinction.
The Express News Group does not make any postseason award selections. All awards are either earned by student-athletes at respective levels or voted on by state, county and division/league representatives. All school awards are selected by respective coaches and school officials.
