At the height of this week’s nor’easter, actor Alec Baldwin ran into a tree on Montauk Highway while driving a white Range Rover.
On Monday at noon, per police reports, Baldwin was eastbound in traffic on Montauk Highway when a large truck veered to the left to make a wide right turn into a driveway. Baldwin thought the driver of the truck was making a left, so he moved slightly right to get around the truck. Realizing the truck was making a right, Baldwin drove off the south side of the road to avoid a collision. He lost control and struck a tree.
No one was injured in the minor crash.
“This morning, I was in a car accident,” Baldwin said in an Instagram video. “A guy cut me off in a truck — a garbage truck, a garbage truck the size of a whale.”
“To avoid hitting him, I hit a tree. I hit a fat tree, crushed my car — my wife’s car,” he said. “I crashed my wife’s car. I feel bad about that, but it’s all fine, and I’m fine, and my brother’s fine.”
Baldwin, 67, was in the car with his brother, Stephen, who was in town for the Hamptons International Film Festival, of which Baldwin is the co-chair.
In the video, Baldwin thanked the East Hampton Town Police Department, which responded to the scene of the crash. Hammer Towing transported the car to its facility in Springs, according to police reports.
